New Watercolours!

My new palette, swatches, brushes, paint pot and tape.

For Christmas my wish usually remains the same as every year - new art supplies - and thank goodness my wish came true. This year I wished for some new watercolours I saw online from a brand I haven’t tried before called Fuumuui. I wanted to try this particular one because of the unique muted colour palette. I also received four new travel brushes made of squirrel hair and some new watercolour tape from my partner who knows me quite well.

Out of the watercolours I’ve tried, Daniel Smith are my favourites I’ve used, but I’ve used a couple different brands including W&N, Beam paints, Derwent, and Finetec. Their granulating colours from Daniel Smith like Moonglow and Lunar Black are super fun and interesting to use. I am curious to see how these fare in comparison, they’re described as semi-opaque watercolours with a creamy texture.

According to their site “this set is ideal for expressive illustrations, moody landscapes, and tonal studies” which I’m excited to try out!

I’m so excited to paint with these on some toned paper. Some work that inspired me recently was the work of Brazilian designer & illustrator, Clara McAllister, who works with gouache on black paper. Her work is pictured below which I very much admire.

You can check out this palette and the rest of their line of materials here. Their shipping time to Canada took a while (over 2 weeks) but so far I am happy with the quality of the paints after trying them briefly from swatching them.

I’ll post an update later once I’ve had the chance to review these in full.

Thanks for reading & have a great week!
