“Double Vision” Book Cover Design

Process of painting the base before scanning & adding in details and text.

“Double Vision” is my first physical book that I had the opportunity to illustrate the cover of. The book centres around a collection of photography and illustrations with written responses between John Oughton, a writer and Nina West an Illustrator and photographer.

This cover is based around Nina who suffers from the loss of her vision due to an eye surgery she underwent and the responses John had to her artwork. The overall the book is about reflection, loss of vision and contemplation. For the typography I used the font optician sans and laid it out similar to an opticians eye chart. For my medium I used acrylic gouache on canvas paper that was scanned and touched up afterwards in procreate.

“Stephanie was professional in establishing timelines and formats; creative in coming up with three different options for our book's cover; and efficient in finishing a cover design that more than satisfied our needs, and was a week ahead of schedule.”

Mock Book Covers I’ve Designed and Illustrated

“…Sarah’s last whisper was his name. James’s final breath carried hers. The pulling began – gentle at first, then insistent. The sensation of floating up from their bodies like rising through deep water towards light above. Their awareness expanded beyond the confines of flesh and bone, beyond the small room with its antiseptic smell and mechanical silence. For a moment, they were nowhere and everywhere, formless and infinite. Her impatient spirit already reaching towards her new form. James sensed her anxiety and his essence brushed against hers one last time – a farewell and a promise. Then came the strange weightlessness, the sensation of being unmade and remade, of being everywhere and nowhere at once. But fate had other paths ahead, even after their time had come to an end as humans.”

Amidst the chaos, a young apprentice and friend of Princess Lirien named Eira discovers a cryptic message that hints at the princess's fate and the king's dark past.
