The First Love
Hello, dear reader. It’s good to see you here.
This post is the first of many blog posts. It’s also a post about my first fountain pen pen I’ve ever bought!
Welcome & sit tight for a bit of yapping about my new favourite writing tool.
My first pen I’ve ever bought is a Lamy Safari with a fine nib, in the colour yellow.
My Lamy Safari fountain pen
There’s a few reasons why I bought this one despite having a decent selection of fountain pens at the art store that I work at. My reasoning for this pen is:
The art store I work at had a Lamy tester that I quite liked the feel of. I liked being able to try the pen I’m buying before committing to it
The bright colour attracted me, it wouldn’t get lost in my bag because of the bright colour of the body
I was told by a more knowledgeable co-worker they made a great first fountain pen
It was a mid-range choice. The pens at the store started at $6 ranging to $300+. I didn’t want to buy something super cheap and break it or buy one expensive and lose it. I paid $40 for my pen before tax
I liked the idea of eventually graduating to a converter, which meant that the pen could be converted to a pen that takes a bottle of ink. I could customize the colour if I wanted to, but for now I’m sticking to cartridges before I get a converter
Lamy nibs are sold separately and can be easily switched out if I decide that I wanted a thinner or thicker line weight
Pictured above is a Lamy converter, which is the red and black clear piece that may be plugged into the back of the pen to replace a cartridge so that ink colour can be drawn from a bottle of ink
So far I’m really enjoying how it writes. Overall I’m quite happy with it but I am also curious about what a more and less expensive pen would feel like in comparison to this one. Also, the grip on this pen is triangular so I’m still getting accustomed to how to hold and write with it in comparison to a pencil or pen.
Here’s some pages of my practice writing from my journal.
October bullet journalling with my new pen
I hope to get better at writing with it with some practice. Thanks for reading my quick entry about my new exciting pen.
I hope the rest of your week goes well & happy halloween!
